Google: Pontiac Still More Popular Than Buick

The numbers don’t lie. Well over a year after Pontiac began its phaseout, it still outranks Buick in Google Search popularity… adding fire to the assertion that the brand has staying power, and should be re-evaluated once the economy (and GM) are viable once again.

Now, Pontiac does benefit here from the advent of the city named after the iconic car company; Pontiac, Michigan. However, it is highly unlikely that this accounts for the broad difference. Both Buick and Pontiac are international brands, searched for every day (and every hour) on Google throughout North America.

What would account for the 2:1 popularity of Pontiac over Buick, is passion for the brand and its iconic cars… new cars that consumers still want to buy. General Motors must remain aware of the persistence in two-fold popularity for Pontiac over even Buick.

In conclusion, this is significant for two reasons. One, Buick has far from faltered. Buick has seen massive gains in sales year-over-year since Pontiac was phased out. And, two, Pontiac’s popularity has also persisted during this time. We’ve been running these Google Trend analyses since shortly before Pontiac’s initial phaseout. Not once has Pontiac fallen below Buick in terms of popularity.

As the owner of a 2000 Pontiac Firehawk, I long for the return of this brand. Hopefully with the involvement of SLP once again. The idea of a 5th gen TransAm or Firehawk to live side by side with my 4th gen is appealing. I’ve owned 2 pontiacs and loved em both. BRING EM BACK!!!!

  4. John says:

Checking in from GenVibe.com and ForeverPontiac.com, you have our support! Let’s bring Pontiac back!

  5. Tony says:

I owned 6 Great Pontiacs beautifull and trouble free I might add. Broke my heart when the General took them away, although I am and always will be a GM man, I would love to see these beautifull Pontiacs back on the lots for sale !!! WHAT A SIGHT THAT WOULD BE !!!!!!!!!!!!!…………………Come on GM……BRING THEM BACK !!!!!!!

Fellow Pontiac loyalists, keep the faith! This organization, BringPontiacBack.org, is truly a godsend. It’s keeping my fires burning. I’m a lifelong Pontiac owner who simply can’t imagine owning any other car but Pontiac. No other make will do. Let’s all keep after GM until it comes to its senses. Pontiac forever!

  7. Chria says:

I will never buy another GM unless Pontiac is brought back. I even work at a GM dealership. You just can’t match the Pontiac style! Shame on you, GM, for deleting your working mans, HI-PO good looking car.

  8. kermit sleggs says:

my first car was a 66 pontiac lamans i still love that car.but in this day and age of outsorcing of our jobs overseas,it only seems fitting that g.m.would want to kill the brand with a true amarican name pontiac

  9. Moanalua says:

kermit sleggs: MY first car was ALSO a ’66 Le Mans! It had metallic turquoise paint w/ matching turquoise interior. It had the 326 V8, good for 250 hp with just a 2V carb. That’s 60 hp more than the HO 305-4V in the ’84 Trans Am I have now. Everyone, let’s not give-up hope! This website brings-together folks who want Pontiac back. Let’s hope that together, we can see that dream become reality!

  10. Bill Pierce says:

My name is Bill Pierce and I’m 48 yr old male. I’ve been a Pontiac nut most of my life. My mother worked for Pontiac for 24 yrs. and I got to see the styling and performance for years upon years. I’m the owner of a 1987 Pontiav Fiero GT, and a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire GT which is getting ready to be modified to look like a Goodys Dash Series Pontiac. I’ve owned a few more than that, but thats for another time, we definitely want our Pontiacs resurrected and brought back, so we can slay the Dragons once again.

  11. David Hawthorne says:

I am a very proud owner of a 2005 Pontiac Vibe. It has been the best car my wife and I have ever dreamed of owning. I have never even heard of a vehicle being as reliable as this one. I’m going to put you in shock now. The only thing we have ever had to replace on this car was an electrical part which was covered under warranty, and 1 electrical part as a result of a recall. Even brake wear is minimal. We didn’t have to replace for the first time until 90k miles!! I rotated my tires the other day and checked the wheel bearings….THEY ARE STILL GOOD!!! Nothing else has needed replacement and it still looks and runs like a brand new car. Now for the shocker. My wife and I travel a lot, we bought this car brand new, it has been all over the U.S. and it has over 230,000 miles on it!!! This is unheard of! I tell everyone, I would buy 5 more of these cars, and if the engine ever goes, I will buy a new engine for it. Simply an amazingly reliable car and I would not believe it myself if I were not fortunate enough to own it. Oh yeah…and the best part…We get 31-36 mpg with it…STILL!!

  12. Moanalua says:

My ’84 Trans Am is 21 years older than your Vibe, and it’s still going strong. Pontiac offered GREAT cars! And here’s hoping that GM will revive Pontiac, so that it can CONTINUE offering great cars!

  14. I have owned dozens of Pontiacs. Now I have 2 -67′s
2002 SSEi, and the first car ever bought brand new, which is the GXP G8. I realized it was my last chance ever to do that and I couldn’t be happier …..”What a Car!! Remember sometime around the early 80′s, Ford wanted to discontinue the Mustang. 30,000 fans sent phone calls & Letters which stopped that dead. Look at the Mustang’s success now. WHILE THERE ARE STILL PONTIAC FANS OUT THERE WE NEED TO #1 don’t stop trying#2 call/email GM and tell them. I can be 99% Sure that when the customers get vocal in masses, they have to respond. Each fan doing his/her part can get us a 2018 Pontiacs back!!

  15. I have owned Pontiacs since 1975, so I am a die hard and loyal Pontiac fan! Pontiac is an icon that is for sure. I have sorely missed the Pontiac sign and the
Pontiac dealerships. So it would definitely inspire and make me happy to see all
of the new Pontiacs each year once again. Build them bold, sophisticated, beautiful, and pure Pontiac as some of the past Pontiacs have been. To me
Pontiac will always be Bonneville, Grand Prix, Grand Am, GTO, and Firebird. I
also liked Sunbird, Fiero, Sunfire, and Solstice. I and we love you Pontiac!
Hope to see you back in the near future Pontiac forever!

  16. Rafael says:

I own a 1965 GTO runs like a tiger but needs a little body work but still runs and used to own 1969 GTO Judge I miss that car it was set on fire by my exgirlfriend. So yes bring back Pontiac and make it here in the USA and no more Australian designs or Europan as well we need it to be American all the way

  17. Moanalua says:

Way to go, all you Pontiac loyalists! Let’s maintain our passion for Pontiac. I think there are enough of us nationwide –and in Canada–to make the return of Pontiac feasible. Keep pushing! GM eventually will have to respond one way or another.
